I took this picture of the World Trade Center and lower Manhattan exactly 10 years ago (07-29-2001) with my first digital camera, a Kodak DC 290. The picture was taken at Eagle Rock reservation in Montclair, NJ, which is about 15 miles from Manhattan and provides outstanding views of Manhattan on clear days. I was living and working in Manhattan at the time I took this picture, but I had decided to make a trip out to Montclair to take some pictures with my fancy new digital camera. I had previously lived in and around Montclair for many years and the 400 acre “Eagle Rock” has always been one of my favorite places to relax at in that area.
I visited Eagle Rock on my recent visit to NJ and discovered that a 9-11 Memorial has been built at the place where I took the picture above.
Wow! Just a few months before they were destroyed. A sad reminder of a very tragic day!
But, this is a great shot!
Thank you.
Love it. I used to go @ night in the Winter when the air was clear and cold, and The City was a beautiful sight. I went back maybe Sept 14, 2001 and remember seeing the silhouettes of the remaining buildings from the worklights and smoke. Very eerie scene. I’ll never forget it.
we visited Eagle Rock Reservation in September this year, had supper there and looked at the memorial granite plaques for Sept 2001 victims, and enjoyed the wonderful view of Manhattan at night, an experience we will never forget
I wish to reuse this on my Facebook for its 15th anniversary. Do I have your permission to do so? Thanks in advance!
Darius,
Sure, you may use my WTC picture. I don’t mind. Thank you for asking.

Amazing shot! I also used on my facebook page, I credited you with the photo.Thank you!
I remember I could see them driving down 17 somewhere near paramus NJ with a similar view. I wish someone had some shots from up that way. I actually found this image searching for that.
Thank you for this photo. I was searching for a “before” shot for a student summer school class trip to Eagle Rock. My son and I stumbled onto the beautiful 9/11 Memorial that is there now sometime ago and were stunned by how beautiful it is on a clear day. My somewhat-neglected blog is WTCautism.wordpress.com.
